For dental practices
AI visibility for dental practices in London: a practical checklist
"Emergency dentist near me, open now?" More patients now ask that question to an AI assistant than scroll a list of results. Here's how a London practice can make itself easy for AI to recommend, without breaking any rules.
Dentistry is one of the clearest examples of how patients now choose. The need is often urgent, local and specific: a broken tooth, a child in pain, an appointment after work. Those are exactly the questions people put to an AI assistant.
When the AI answers, it tends to name one or two practices. If yours isn't one of them, the patient never sees you.
1. Say exactly what you offer, and where
AI needs to understand your practice in one sentence. Your homepage should make clear:
- what kind of practice you are (NHS, private, mixed, specialist)
- your key treatments (emergency, implants, Invisalign, children's dentistry, hygiene)
- where you are, by area name, not just postcode
- when you're open, including late evenings and Saturdays
"Your smile is our passion" is lovely, but it gives an AI nothing to repeat.
2. Give each important treatment its own clear page
Patients ask about specific treatments. A single "Treatments" page listing twenty services in bullet points is hard for AI to use. A clear page for each major treatment, explaining who it's for, what happens and what to expect, gives the AI a source to draw on when that exact question comes up.
Keep it factual and within GDC guidance on advertising: no guarantees of outcomes, no misleading comparisons.
3. Treat your Google Business Profile as your shop window
- choose the right primary category, then add secondary ones that genuinely apply
- list your treatments as services
- keep opening hours and holiday hours accurate
- add real photos of the practice, reception and team
- answer common questions, and keep your details matching your website
4. Build a steady flow of specific, genuine reviews
Reviews that mention the treatment and the experience ("saw me the same day for a cracked tooth, very gentle with my nervous son") help AI match you to real questions. Ask every patient in the same simple way, for example with a text after the appointment. Never offer incentives, and never filter who gets asked.
Reply to reviews, positive and negative, calmly and without sharing any patient details.
5. Make your details identical everywhere
Your practice name, address, phone and hours should match exactly across your website, Google, NHS listings, directories and social profiles. Old addresses and different phone numbers on old listings are a common, fixable reason AI hesitates.
6. Answer the questions patients actually ask
Write short, clear answers on your site to questions like:
- Do you take emergency appointments, and how quickly?
- Do you see nervous patients?
- Do you offer NHS treatment, and are you taking new patients?
- What should I do out of hours?
These are the questions patients type and say to AI. Clear answers make your practice a usable source.
7. Check what AI says about you, regularly
Ask a handful of AI tools the questions your patients ask ("emergency dentist in [your area]", "best dentist for nervous patients near [area]") and note the date. Are you absent, mentioned, or actually recommended? Who's named instead?
Do this monthly and you'll see real progress, rather than guessing.
The honest bit
Nobody can guarantee an AI will recommend your practice, and answers vary from one question to the next. What you can do is make your practice clear, consistent and well corroborated, which is exactly what these tools look for before they name anyone.
Quick answers
More people now ask AI assistants and Google's AI answers for local recommendations, especially for urgent needs like emergency appointments. It's worth checking what these tools say about your practice today.
Can we use patient reviews in our AI visibility work?Yes, genuine reviews are one of the strongest signals. Ask every patient in the same way, never incentivise or filter reviews, and stay within GDC guidance on advertising.
What's the single most important fix?Consistency. Make sure your practice name, address, phone, hours and treatments are identical on your website, Google Business Profile and every directory listing.
